As non-native Chicagoans, neither of us knew the history of the neighborhood before moving here. The Bridgeport that we saw was already one of the most racially diverse neighborhoods in Chicago, and upon opening the shop, we learned that the neighborhood has been known for its racism and racist violence, for decades. Knowing the history and reputation of Bridgeport to this day has motivated us to make the neighborhood what we think it can be!
